Gritting roads and footpaths

3. Footpaths

Footpaths are also dealt with on a priority basis. Schools, public transport stations, hospitals and retail centres are considered as main routes.

  • Priority 1 footpaths, which are based on a risk assessment, will be treated before 9am
  • Priority 2 footpaths will be treated if the conditions are persistent and resources permitted

Areas may not be treated on weekends where it is deemed inappropriate – limited use of school routes.

Footpath and cycle routes will normally be gritted during working hours. The number of gritted areas is restricted by available personnel and resources.
