Walking and cycling

There are lots of great benefits to walking and cycling to school.

It’s healthy

The NHS recommends cycling or walking to school as a way of keeping active with health benefits. Your child needs at least one hour of physical activity every day. The journey to and from school is an ideal time for your child to be active.

It’s better for the environment

Fewer car journeys can lead to an improvement in local air quality as carbon emissions are reduced.

Congestion is reduced

If fewer school journeys are made by car then congestion is reduced and the stress associated with it.

It’s more social

Children can meet up to walk and cycle together to school.

Road Safety is improved

Walking and cycling can enhance children’s experience and understanding of using roads and an appreciation of their environment. A reduction in car usage can lead to a safer environment for everyone.
