Help with digital skills
2. Getting started
Whilst face to face contact is restricted due to coronavirus, we have introduced new options for support with digital skills.
We have set up a helpline for Stockport residents for free telephone support from a Digital Champion. You can access support by calling 07537 127095. Leave your name, number and a brief description of what you need help with on their answerphone. They'll put you in contact with a volunteer Digital Champion.
Local online digital skills classes
If you have access to a smartphone, tablet or computer, there are 6 free DigiKnow online (Zoom) group classes each week helping people in Stockport gain digital skills and improve their confidence. Content varies each week with a wide range of topics covered, from online forms to photo editing, social media to email. If you’d like to find out more, or join any of these Zoom classes, please email Ryan or call 07537 127095.
Computers and access to the internet
Some Stockport libraries have now re-opened and a small number of public computers will be available at these. You can book to use a computer for up to 1 hour per day. Public Wi-Fi is not yet available.
Starting Point Community Learning Partnership have also set up Stockport’s first digital device lending library. Devices are free to borrow, and some come with free access to the internet. Support getting online is provided by Digital Champions.
The standard loan period will be one month, but longer loans may be possible. If you would be interested in borrowing a device, please call the DigiKnow Helpline on 07537 127095.
If you're already online but would like to improve your skills, or if you would like to help others in your household to get online and improve their skills, there are plenty of online resources.
