Ways to reduce the cost of getting online
Help is available for people struggling to get online, or do things online, or who have lost access to the internet through lack of money.
Public computers
You can book a slot to use any of our library computers for free.
Free wifi
We provide free public wifi in all Stockport libraries and the One Stockport Hub. See library opening hours or learn more about Open+ to use libraries outside staffed hours. Free wifi is also available in some retail locations.
Social tariffs
Social tariffs are cheaper broadband and phone packages for those on low incomes. This could mean a saving of around £180 a year. If you receive benefits, you could be eligible. Find out more on Ofcom's website.
Buy a low cost, refurbished device
You can buy a refurbished device at a low cost from Community Computers. This also comes with help to get online. To find out more or buy a device visit the Community Computers website.
Borrow a digital device
If you do not have access to the internet at home, you may be able to borrow a device and get data from the DigiKnow Device Library for free. You can also purchase a refurbished device at a lower cost. This all comes with information from a Digital Champion about getting online. For more information call the DigiKnow Helpline on 07724 217888.
