- risk assessment of food premises to issue them with a Food Rating which tells the consumer how well they are performing
- programmed food hygiene inspections
- approved premises inspections
- food complaints investigations
- food poisoning outbreaks investigations
- food sampling to ensure food is safe to eat
- certifying food to be exported
- enforcement action when hygiene standards are not met
