Food business registration
Last updated 3 August 2021
When you start a new food business or take over an existing business in Stockport, you must register with us. You should do this at least 28 days before trading or before food operations start.
If you use premises in more than one council area, you must register with each local authority separately.
If you're a mobile trader you must register with the local authority where the vehicle/trailer is stored overnight.
For more information visit the Food Standards Agency website.
Registration cannot be refused. However a prohibited person check will be undertaken to make sure you've not been prohibited from operating a food business before.
How to apply
To register a food business complete the online application form below. The completed form will be sent to our Food Safety team to check.
Food Premises Registration is regulated by Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004 on the Hygiene of Foodstuffs, Article 6(2). It's an offence not to register a food business and enforcement action may be taken if a business fails to register resulting in a fine of up to £400.
Please note it is an offence to give information that you know is false.
Tacit consent does apply to this application. This means that you'll be able to act as though your registration is granted if you've not heard from us by the end of the target completion period.
