4. Taxi surgery sessions
New taxi licensing processes due to coronavirus
In line with guidance from the government and Public Health England we've taken the difficult decision to close our public reception facilities. This includes all taxi licensing surgery appointments, drop-in sessions, knowledge tests and visual accident damage inspections.
You can book a surgery appointment online up to 6 weeks in advance.
The table below shows the days and times the surgery sessions take place:
|Monday||3:30pm to 4pm|
|Tuesday||3:30pm to 4pm|
|Wednesday||11:30am to midday|
|Thursday||3:30pm to 4pm|
|Friday||11:30am to midday|
Appointments are restricted to the allocated time period and type of appointment that you've pre-booked. If you need to discuss anything else, you'll need to make another appointment.
The table below shows the type of booking that can be made and the length of time allocated for each appointment:
|Type of booking||Appointment time|
|Apply for a new executive hire vehicle licence||15 minutes|
|Transfer of non-hackney and executive plates||15 minutes|
|Renew an executive driver or vehicle licence or executive badge)||10 minutes|
If you're not able to use the online system, visit any Stockport library or local advice centre. You can also visit Fred Perry reception in the Town Hall complex where you'll find help and computers available for use.
Note: we monitor surgery attendance. If you cancel after 3pm the day before your appointment or fail to attend an appointment, we will record it. If you have a pattern of non-attendance we may restrict this service and any abuse of the system will be taken very seriously.
On the day of the appointment
If you’ve pre-booked, you do not need to queue at reception for a ticket. Just take a seat and wait to be called.
Drop-in sessions are available for the first hour and a half when surgery opens. They run on a strictly first come, first served basis and you'll need to get a ticket from reception.
You'll be able to:
- scan your documents (Personnel Checks)
- collect plates
- have your original application documents checked
The table shows the days and times of the drop-in sessions:
|Monday||2pm to 3:30pm|
|Tuesday||2pm to 3:30pm|
|Wednesday||10am to 11:30am|
|Thursday||2pm to 3:30pm|
|Friday||10am to 11:30am|
Note: surgery appointments begin when the one and a half hour drop-in sessions are complete. If you're still waiting you'll have to come to the next available drop-in session.
