Stockport Retail and Leisure Study 2019
This study provides an assessment of retail and leisure development needs for a period of 15 years from 2019 to 2034. It includes:
- a review of current trends and operator demand
- identified shopping patterns and deficiencies in provision
- ‘health check’ assessments of Stockport town centre and the eight district centres
Key outputs include:
- recommendations on the centre boundaries and strategic priorities for their future
- local floorspace thresholds
- advice on planning policy for town centres and retail in the Local Plan

Stockport Retail and Leisure Study Update 2022
This study is an update to the 2019 Retail and Leisure Study to:
- assist the formulation of emerging planning policy
- enable an objective assessment of retail and leisure needs
- allow an understanding of provision and potential responses over the plan period from 2022 to 2039
The study includes a review of:
- national and local retail and leisure planning policy, as well as an overview of relevant trends which present challenges to the borough’s centres
- the ‘health check’ assessments of Stockport town centre and the 8 district centres
- assessments of the need for further convenience and comparison goods retail floorspace
- the centre boundaries, key findings and recommendations from the 2019 study

Stockport Employment Land Review 2022
This study:
- provides a review of the existing portfolio of employment areas
- outlines the needs and challenges faced by the existing business community
- plans for the provision of employment land over the plan period based on market conditions, forecast, modelling data and growth scenarios
Recommendations are set out that will inform plan and policy making including those sites to be retained or released for other uses.
