Doreen Carwithen wrote for the concert stage but was also the first woman anywhere in the world to work full-time as a film composer. Bishop Rock is a splendid seascape and musical evocation of the eponymous lighthouse located a few miles from St Agnes Isle in the Scillies.

Anyone who attended our concert in January 2023 will still have fond memories of a truly breath-taking performance of Strauss' Four Last Songs by tonight's soloist and so expectations are high for the return of April Fredrick this evening with more Strauss to woo us.

Lastly, Sibelius 1, something one reviewer called “a work full of unrestrained strength, full of passionate vivacity and astonishing audacity.”
