Stockport Libraries are delighted to welcome the OUTing the Past festival to Stockport to complete a month-long series of online LGBT+ events. All events be booked on the Eventbrite website or the Stockport PLUS website.

Now in our 4th year Stockport Libraries and partners are providing a wide range of accessible and diverse LGBT+ themed online events during the whole of February to celebrate and support LGBT+ History Month.

12:45pm: welcome and introduction

1pm: Veronica McKenzie and the Haringey Vanguard Project

Uncovering the histories of Black & Asian LGBTQ+ communities: a live online presentation giving an insight into the lives of Black and Asian LGBTQ+ people, their role in several key movements that shaped LGBTQ+ history and through personal stories show the importance of unity, and queer spaces

1:30pm: Abtin Sadeghi FRCA MB BChir MA (Cantab)

I recently joined the Schools Out UK committee and as an NHS doctor have been working with NHS trusts and organisations to plan for LGBT+ History month and beyond.

LGBT+ Health and the NHS: a pre-recorded presentation giving an overview of the health issues that have been particularly important to the LGBT+ community throughout the history of the NHS. This will include:

  • the role of the NHS, both positive and negative, in LGBT+ Health over the past 70 years
  • look at the parallels with the current COVID pandemic
  • the mental and physical health issues affecting the LGBT+ and BAME community

2pm: Trudy Howson, LGBT+ Poet Laureate

An LGBT Life. How it was. How it is: a live online presentation. Trudy the current LGBT+ Poet Laureate explores through poetry, prose and personal recollection her experience of being Gay. She shares her experiences as a performing artist and a political activist during the 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000’s up to the present time.
