The session will start with archaeologist Dr John Piprani giving a brief introduction to the object, period and history of research. Then experimental potter, Juan Ignacio Jiménez, will lead us all through the process of making a Dolni Vestonice type 'venus' figurine.
Found in the Czech Republic, the original figurine is around 32,000 years old and provides one of the first examples of people using ceramic technology.
The aim of this session is to explore what experimental archaeology can tell us about past processes and people. We'll end the event by sharing with each other what we've gleaned. We aim to film parts of this event.
