In this second session, we'll be looking at the Mesolithic period and making a 'Star Carr' type shale pendant. The Mesolithic is the period when people repopulated Britain after the last major Ice Age event. Star Carr is an early Mesolithic site in Yorkshire. Dr John Piprani will give a brief introduction to the period and actual pendant and then we will split into two groups. Artist Jo Gornall will work with one group making natural cordage, John will work with the second group to make the pendant.
At half time both groups will swap activities. By the end of the session everyone with have pendant and cordage. Again, we'll end the session by sharing with each other what we have learnt through the process. These events have been facilitated by the University of Manchester 'Creative Manchester' initiative. We're aiming to film parts of the session.
