Planning applications for household extensions must address energy efficiency measures so that we can fully consider the proposed development.
The requirement comes from our Core Strategy which was adopted in March 2011 and includes Stockport Core Strategy Policy SD 2. This requires that if you build an extension to a residential property you should take steps to improve the energy performance of the house.
You'll need to complete:
- a house extension energy checklist (PDF 87Kb)
- an energy efficiency statement. This should summarise the cost of the proposed extension, the energy efficiency measures considered and the expected payback time
If you cannot include the energy efficiency measures, justification for not providing them should be included with the energy efficiency statement.
The house extension checklist lists a number of efficiency measures. It is not necessary to undertake all of those listed.
The 2 measures which achieve the most in energy and carbon savings are loft and cavity wall insulation.
We work with the Energy Saving Trust to develop low cost schemes for these measures. You can call them on 0800 512 012 to confirm if any schemes are currently running.
