The benefits of apprenticeships

Apprenticeships benefit employers and individuals, and by boosting the skills of the workforce they help to improve economic productivity.

You will select a training organisation that will work closely with the apprentice. This is to ensure that the apprenticeship offered is the most appropriate for the job role. It also must reflect yours and the apprentice’s needs. Most training is on-the-job with a mentor to learn job specific skills, including an element of directed training. This may be an off the job day or block release delivered in the workplace.

Why recruit an Apprentice?

For employers it is an opportunity to jointly invest in the future success and growth of the business. Hiring apprentices is a productive and effective way for businesses to grow their own talent. They're developing a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.

According to the Centre for Economic and Business Research, the average apprenticeship completer increases business productivity by £214 per week. This is through increased profits, lower prices and better products. Increased employee satisfaction, reduced staff turnover and reducing recruitment costs are real gains for employers.

The government will pay employers £1000 into 2 stages over the course of the year if they;

  • are 16 to 18 year old apprentice
  • are 19 to 24 year old leaving care
  • have a Local Authority Education and Healthcare plan.
