Emergency planning

1. Emergency planning

If there is a major emergency Stockport, you can find the latest updates by following us on twitter @StockportMBC or our dedicated website which will be available in the event of major emergencies.

Current disruptions to services caused by bad weather and unforeseen circumstances can be found on our School closures and disruptions to services page.

In 2011, the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) established the Civil Contingencies and Resilience Unit (CCRU) to lead the delivery of civil contingency services for the 10 local authorities in Greater Manchester. The CCRU provides emergency planning on our behalf.

To make sure that the UK is prepared for the impact of a disaster, the government places statutory obligations on all local authorities and other agencies to plan and respond. You can find out about the responsibilities of Category 1 and Category 2 responders to civil emergencies in The Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

If you would like to know more, email our Civil Resilience and Business Continuity Lead Officer on emergency.planning@stockport.gov.uk.
