School admissions

If your child is starting primary or secondary school and does not have an education, health and care plan (EHCP), you must follow the school admission process to apply for a school place.

You must still apply for a school place if you're waiting for:

the outcome of an education, health and care (EHC) assessment

a final EHCP to be issued

If you do not apply for a school place and your child's EHCP is not issued then you may not get a place at your preferred school.

Advice and support

The Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) team

The EHCP team work with families who are going through the Education Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment process for the first time. They also support children and young people who already have an EHCP as they progress through their educational journey.

EHCP case workers work with children and young people aged up to 25. They also provide careers advice and guidance to students at specialist settings from year 11.
