Overview
Each local authority has a statutory duty to make arrangements for the education of pupils who are unable to attend normal full-time schooling for medical reasons.
Where possible, schools and families should work together to support your child to attend school.
Schools are best placed to understand the educational needs of your child. They also have access to a range of services that can support your child.
Schools have a duty to make reasonable adjustments for any child that is struggling to attend school. Additionally, you as a parent/carer have a legal duty to make sure your child attends regularly. Therefore, it's very important for families and schools to identify any barriers to attendance and develop a plan that will support your child’s needs and secure good attendance.
