About us
We are a friendly and sociable walking group with members from all walks of life.
We enjoy walking and exploring the beauty of our local countryside in a wide variety of areas, including Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire and Staffordshire.
The Club was originally established in 1909. Our programme provides walks on three days a week throughout the year for a wide range of abilities. We hike all year round and members have the choice of walking on three days of the week, at three different levels of ability.
Walks and hikes vary from 4 to 10 miles in length. We have social events and holidays. Throughout the year we hold a variety of social activities plus a spring or autumn holiday.
We have a large and actively involved membership. A large majority of our approaching 200 members participate in one or more of our 5 weekly walks. Members mainly live in the South Manchester and Stockport areas with some coming from as far as Sheffield and Warrington.
The object of Stockport Walkers is to encourage the love of nature and the countryside through walking together and to foster a spirit of sociability and comradeship. The Club is affiliated to Peak and Northern Footpaths Society and HF Holidays.
