About us

Heaton Mess Women's Institute is part of the National Federation of Women's Institutes providing women aged 18+ with educational opportunities, skill development, and community engagement. We're based in The Heatons.

We meet on the third Tuesday of every month, except in August. Our meetings are varied with a range of speakers and activities. There is a dedicated committee which welcomes new members, plans meetings and events. Each year we select a local charity and raise money/ collect items based on the needs of the charity.

There is a range of sub-groups, including book club, coffee & chat, early doors, early dine, Messy Brunch, Messy Crafters, and a Saunter Group. WhatsApp groups include media, food, gardening, thrifty and not Messy Traders where members can share ideas and advice. Visits to the cinema and theatre are arranged periodically too.

Heaton Mess Women's Institute is a member of the Cheshire Federation which organises events across the region. Members belong to the National Federation and can shape work locally and nationally through the annual resolutions. Members receive the WI Life magazine and have access to a range of workshops via an online learning platform. There is something for everyone.

We are an active and friendly group with 75 members. We communicate by email, WhatsApp and Facebook. Potential new members are welcome to contact us and attend a meeting to decide if they wish to join. Membership is based on an annual fee from April to March. Members can join at any time and would pay a pro-rata membership fee.
