Chads Theatre Company

About us

Chads is an amateur theatre company run entirely by volunteers. We have our own, purpose built theatre which comprises a main auditorium seating 140 and a studio space for an audience of 50.

We produce 6 main stage productions each season (our season runs from September to May) and 2 or 3 studio shows. Auditions for all plays are open to the public and anyone offered a part is expected to join the society.

But acting in and directing plays are only 2 ways to be involved with Chads. There are a host of other tasks that have to be undertaken if the theatre is to be successful, including:

• reading and choosing the plays
• running the auditions
• designing and building the sets
• choosing and managing the props
• dressing the actors in costumes appropriate to the period of the play
• stage managing the shows
• lighting our shows
• putting together the sound plot
• publicising the plays
• meeting and greeting our audiences
• running our bar and serving tea and coffee during the interval
• maintaining the building and grounds

Chads also has a wardrobe hire shop which is open each Sunday morning during the season. Other drama societies use our wardrobe to dress their productions and members of the public hire outfits for fancy dress parties or school book days.
