About us
From Monday 12 May 2025
Central Library in Stockport town centre is temporarily closed for a short period while we carry out essential maintenance and improvement works. This work is vital to protect and preserve the building for the future.
You can continue to borrow, reserve, and collect books, and use public PCs for free, at Stockport Council's reception at Stopford House (SK1 3XE).
Visit any of our nearby libraries, including Brinnington, Edgeley, and Great Moor, which all offer a full range of services
You can access thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, newspapers, and magazines 24/7 via the free BorrowBox app.
Stockport Libraries services are free to all, regardless of where you live.
From Saturday 24 May 2025
When Stockroom opens on 24 May, you’ll find:
- an additional town centre library
- a children’s creative learning space
- a friendly café bar
- Stockport’s historical archives, brought to life in a vibrant new setting
