2. Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

Businesses and residents in Stockport are able to benefit from a government voucher scheme that could bring gigabit broadband capability to their premises. This new scheme aims to extend full fibre networks and bring high capacity broadband to more homes and businesses. Gigabit vouchers can be used by small and medium businesses and the local communities surrounding them to contribute to the installation cost of a gigabit capable connection.

The Government announced the new £67m Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme in March 2018. It enables businesses to claim up to £2,500 towards the cost of connection, either individually or as part of a group project. Residents can claim for a voucher of up to a value of £500 through local group projects, where a business is included in the group.

Businesses can boost their voucher value by joining together with other businesses and local residential properties. For groups of applicants, vouchers may be able to be pooled together to subsidise the cost of installing a connection to all properties in the group.

The scheme is supplier led. To apply, contact your internet service provider or view the list of registered providers on GOV.UK.

The scheme is managed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. You can find full guidance, including terms and conditions on GOV.UK.
