Dementia care

2. ASC - Stockport dementia strategy

In 2009, the Department of Health launched the first ever national dementia strategy. Since then Stockport has worked towards a local version of the national strategy (2010 - 2015).

The 2017-2020 Stockport Dementia Strategy builds on Stockport’s first dementia strategy (2010) and on the five themes of NHS England Dementia Well Pathway including relevant NICE guidance.

The new strategy highlights the achievements made so far in dementia care in Stockport, sets out the vision for 2020 and identifies key achievements by which the overall strategy will be measured.

New elements to the strategy are dementia prevention and creating dementia friendly communities.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank everybody who contributed to this document, this strategy is the result of the joint effort of people with dementia, their carers, staff and volunteers of health and social care organisations and of third sector organisations.
