Cooling towers and evaporative condensers
If non-domestic premises in Stockport have this type of device to cool water or other fluids by the passage of large volumes of air across them, then the person in control of those premises must notify Stockport Council of their location under the The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992.
The purpose of the notification is to identify potential areas that could give rise to spread of infection e.g. legionella and to ensure preventative measures are taken to eliminate the risk of infection arising to employees and the public.
The number of cooling towers on site should be noted on the notification form. This is regardless of whether it is the council or Health and Safety Executive that is the enforcing authority for the premises concerned.
The Health and Safety Executive inspect cooling towers and evaporative condensers for legal compliance. To contact the team call 0161 474 4208 or email email@example.com.
