Measuring website usage

We use both SiteImprove web governance and Google Analytics software to collect information about how you use stockport.gov.uk and our sub-domains.

We do this to ensure the site is meeting the needs of its users. It also helps us make improvements such as improving site search.

Both SiteImprove and Google Analytics stores information about:

  • the pages you visit on stockport.gov.uk
  • how long you spend on each stockport.gov.uk page
  • how you got to the site
  • what you click on while you’re visiting the site

SiteImprove also collects other useful information about our website such as broken links, spelling mistakes and accessibility issues. This helps us to further improve your experience on the site.

We don’t collect or store your personal information for example, your name or address so this information can’t be used to identify who you are. As no personal data is being collected we do not need to ask for your consent to enable this tracking.

Site Improve's cookieless tracking is a feature that allows us to collect visitor data via Siteimprove, our analytics tool, without a cookie being set on your device.

To replace the cookie functionality, they have introduced “Visitor Hash” technology that can track unique and returning visitors without the use of personal data. In addition, enabling cookieless tracking also activates an enhanced IP anonymization to make sure that no personal information is transferred and processed throughout the data pipeline.
