Protected species

Built structures and the land surrounding them have the potential to support protected species. An offence may be committed if these species are harmed, disturbed or their habitats are destroyed. For example if you demolish the building where the species are.

In some instances it may be advisable to carry out a survey to establish the presence of protected species. Please see the protected species informative (PDF 50Kb) for more information.
