Children leaving care

1. Overview

Children Leaving Care

We offer support to young people as they make the transition from being in the care of the local authority to independence.

Before we get started have a quick look at this useful Name Game factsheet (PDF 642Kb). It tells you all you need to know about the people supporting you.

If you're still not sure what it all means, try this link to Coram Voice. They are an independent agency who have written a really good, young person friendly guide to all things leaving care

You can also look at their Coramvoice website for more news and updates. If you would like advice, call their helpline on 0808 800 5792.

The Leaving Care Team offers support to young people who have left the care of Stockport Council up to the age of 21. Or up to the age of 25 if they're in a course of education or training agreed with your worker and recorded in your Pathway Plan.

We want to be there for you should you ever need our help and advice, no matter how long ago you left care. We would like you to sign up to our Lifelong Champion scheme (PDF 177Kb).

The Leaving Care Team can be contacted by calling 0161 475 6700. In cases of emergencies outside of office hours, you can call 0161 718 2118.

Your Care Leaver Charter

The Care Leaver Charter is a set of promises that Stockport Council makes to all our care leavers.

You may also find our Stockport Looked After Children Strategy 2014-17 (PDF 358Kb) useful.
