Performance licences

A performance licence is required for children from birth up to the date that they are no longer of compulsory school age, to take part in a performance or activity, including:

  • films
  • tv
  • radio
  • commercials
  • sport
  • music groups
  • theatre
  • amateur dramatics
  • dance groups
  • working as a model

Compulsory school age ends on the last Friday in June, in the school year that the child reaches the age of 16.

The licence must be issued by the local authority that the child lives in, regardless of where the performance or activity is taking place. Stockport Family will inform other local authorities when a child licensed by Stockport Council is going to be performing in their area.

How to apply

Performance licence applications are usually received from a modelling agent or director. Parents are not responsible for making the application but they will need to provide some information as part of the application.

You must apply at least 21 days before the planned performance. Licences cannot be granted retrospectively. You can apply for a licence by completing the form below:

You must also send us a:

  • scanned copy of the child’s birth certificate
  • photo of the child, taken in the last 6 months
  • copy of the contract, draft contract or other documents, where they exist, containing details of the agreement regulating the child’s participation in the performance or activity to which this application relates
