Becoming a childminder

Childminders can choose to join a childminding agency or to be individually registered with Ofsted (Office for standards in education).

There are a number of fact sheets on the Ofsted website explaining the different registers and registration process.

If you work as a childminder or provide day care for children under 8 years old for more than two hours each day you must register with Ofsted and must be inspected regularly.

To become a registered childminder, you'll need to complete a pre-registration training course. You'll also need to have a current paediatric first aid certificate. You will need a copy of the EYFS Statutory Framework which can be downloaded from GOV.UK.

Becoming a childminder involves setting up as a small business.
