Become a childminder
Childminder information sessions
If you're interested in childminding, come along to one of our online information sessions to find out more. These are usually held in January, around Easter and in September, visit our events calendar to find the next session.
Do not apply to Ofsted before attending an information session. Speak to a member of our team first.
If you work as a childminder or provide day care for children under 8 years old for more than 2 hours each day you must register with Ofsted and must be inspected regularly.
You can choose to join a childminding agency or registered individually with Ofsted (Office for standards in education).
To become a registered childminder, you'll need:
- to complete a pre-registration training course
- a current paediatric first aid certificate
- a copy of the EYFS Statutory Framework which can be downloaded from GOV.UK
- set up as a small business
You can find more information and advice on:
- the Ofsted website explaining the different registers and registration process
- www.childmindinguk.com
