Walking and cycling improvements

A package of walking and cycling measures has been delivered which provides access to the new railway station, the centre of Cheadle and a strategic north/south route connecting to the wider and expanding Bee Network. This is part of Greater Manchester’s vision for a more ‘joined up’, sustainable and accessible transport system, including for those walking, wheeling or cycling.

More information about the development of these measures was provided in our report to Cheadle Area Committee in November 2021.

A segregated walking and cycling route has been provided through Queens Gardens, with a new connection to Newland Road providing access to the new station via Manchester Road, and Abney Hall Park. A new signal controlled crossing is in place on Stockport Road by Queens Gardens, providing access to an on-carriageway cycle route and pedestrian improvements between Stockport Road and Brookfield Park. The paths within the park have been re-surfaced and additional lighting provided.

A new signal controlled crossing has also been provided on Cheadle Road, connecting Brookfield Park with Bruntwood Lane for those walking and cycling, and onward connections are being delivered as part of our A34 Corridor Improvement Plan.
