About us

The Carers Partnership was established by Stockport Council in the autumn of 2023. Stockport Signpost for Carers was appointed to lead the partnership.

Being a carer is very demanding and the number of carers is increasing year by year. The aim of the partnership is to improve support for, and recognition of, carers to help reduce the workload on the health services.

Currently there are estimated to be 26,000 carers within Stockport.

The partnership:

  • is co-chaired by the Chief Executive of Signpost and a carer who has significant lived experience of being a carer. The carer is co-chair for 12 months and is then replaced by another carer in accordance with governance of the carers partnership.
  • meets bi-monthly to review issues raised by carers and recognise how improvements can be made
  • is attended by managers from the various organisations that provide services for carers and the people they care for, in Stockport. These organisations include:
    • Adult Social Care
    • Primary Care
    • NHS Pennine Trust
    • MIND
    • Healthwatch

Signpost also organise regular Carers Network meetings with carers. At these meetings, carers raise issues which are of concern to them. These issues are then recorded in a carers issues list which is then review at the Carers Partnership meetings.
