May 2025 update: Bramall Hall MEND project – phase one complete
We're excited to share that the first phase of scaffolding installation for the MEND project is now complete.
Roof restoration works will begin shortly, starting with the chimneys. This work has just been signed off by our conservation officer.
Here are the key update highlights:
- scaffolding installation: the first phase of scaffolding is now complete, allowing us to begin roof restoration works
- watching brief: a structural engineer and archaeologist have been appointed to carry out a watching brief, as required by our Listed Building Consent; they will create a report of the existing structure for future generations
- chimney restoration: work on the Hall’s distinct chimneys will start soon, including careful restoration and repair to ensure their aesthetic and structural integrity
- sustainability efforts: we aim to salvage and repair as many original roof tiles as possible – tiles that cannot be salvaged will be replaced with reclaimed ones; lime mortar will be used on the chimneys, and the lead capping will be replaced
You can watch a time-lapse capture of the impressive scaffold installation below. It is a work of art in itself.
Bramall Hall reopened at Easter after a brief closure to install the phase one scaffolding. It has been wonderful to welcome visitors back, share updates on the ongoing work, and showcase some behind-the-scenes efforts of the museum team. This is all part of our long-term engagement strategy, which is progressing alongside the MEND restoration work.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Hall and to sharing the progress of our restoration efforts to preserve and enhance this historic house museum and site for current and future generations.
We are open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4.30pm. You can book your tickets from our online ticket office.
