February 2026 update
Phase 1 now complete
In spite of the weather, work has continued to progress well over the winter months with Phase 1 of the roof works now complete.
Chimneys have been repointed, diminishing stone slates have been replaced and new stone ridges installed. Additional elevation repairs have been carried out to gables, replacement of missing oak pegs, the repair of oak timbers to barges and render panels. Improved section gutters have also been fitted and rainwater pipes are in the process of being fixed.
Fantastic finials and a beautiful bellcote
Re-roofing is well underway on Phase 2 with new carved oak finials being installed, and the Hall's bellcote removed by crane for inspection.
Phase 3 scaffolding has also been completed, incorporating an external staircase in preparation for the launch of our new hard hat tours.
Protections to the wall paintings in the Solar are now complete and a report carried out to assess the condition of the ceilings. Roofing has also now been stripped from the majority of Phase 3 roofs and structural assessments have been undertaken ready for additional timbers to be installed where needed.
But work hasn't stopped there. The Bramall Hall team have been busy behind the scenes cleaning and inventorying objects and re-displaying the Servant's Quarters which were closed to allow for completion of Phase 1 of the works, and the feedback we've received from visitors has been amazing.
And while we were almost entirely covered in scaffolding at the end of 2025, that didn't seem to dampen visitors' Christmas spirits with a staggering 4,385 people visiting the Hall in December alone.
Taking history higher
We're thrilled to announce that our new 'Scale the Scaffold' hard hat tours will start on Friday 6 February.
Visitors will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close to see our ‘Under Our Roof’ roof restoration project live in action and witness first-hand the essential repair works being undertaken on this fascinating rooftop tour of Stockport’s only Grade I listed property.
