Books for children with additional needs
Bookstart offers 3 different packs of books which cater for children with additional needs.
These include:
- BookTouch, for blind or partially sighted children
- BookShine, for deaf children
- Bookstart Star, for children with conditions affecting their fine motor skills
Books for children who are deaf
There are two packs for children who are deaf:
- Bookstart Shine Baby for children up to 2 years old
- Bookstart Shine Toddler for 3 to 5 year olds
Each pack has two books, a rhyme place mat with babies signing, and guidance around sharing books.
The Toddler pack includes a bookmark showing British Sign Language and the Baby pack includes a BookTrust keyring.
Books for children who are blind or partially sighted
Bookstart has two different packs for books that cater to children who are blind or partially sighted:
- Bookstart Touch Baby for children up to 2 years of age
- Bookstart Touch Toddler for 3 to 5 year olds
Each pack has two touch-and-feel books and guidance around sharing books with blind and partially sighted children. The Baby pack includes a BookTrust keyring.
Books for children with conditions affecting their fine motor skills
Bookstart Star is a pack of books that caters to children aged 3 to 5 who have disabilities that affect or delay the development of their fine motor skills.
Each pack has a copy of Peekaboo Bear and Getting Ready, plus finger puppets for playing along with the stories and guidance sheets.
