4. Training as an assistant
Bilingual assistants undertake paid work on a part-time and temporary basis. They work in the classroom under the guidance of the class teacher.
All bilingual assistants must have experience working with children or must attend an 18 hour training course with the Ethnic Diversity Service.
The cost of the course is £72. If you are in receipt of benefits you may qualify for a concessionary fee.

You will be invited in for an English reading and writing assessment (unless English is your first language and you will be ask to complete an assessment in the language you are offering) which will be then marked and if you are at the correct level you will be invited on the course.
You will also be asked to complete a form to assess if you are eligible for a reduced rate.
