3. Other useful training

We provide other courses and information that may be useful or relevant to people living or working with autistic people. These courses are free and are available to anyone who lives or works in Stockport.

You can book on a face to face course or do an e-learning course.

Safeguarding

You will find more information on the Safeguarding page.

If you are regularly in contact with adults at risk of abuse, you can attend a half day ‘alerter’ course. This will help you identify signs of abuse and decide what action to take.

Attendance is free and you can book through the Learning Pool. There is also an e-learning course about Safeguarding Children.

Mental Capacity Act

You will find information on the Mental Capacity Act on the Mental Capacity Act 2005 page.

Please visit the Mental Capacity Act training page to book your place. The training is for supervisors and managers of provider services who are responsible for implementing the Mental Capacity Act. As well as correctly recording assessments and best interest decisions.

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)

You will find information on DoLS on the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards page.

There are two e-learning packages available to all staff involved in providing health and social care to people in Stockport. It provides basic introduction to The Mental Capacity Act and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.

The programmes use a combination of text, photo images, quizzes and case studies. It takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete per e-learning unit.

The courses are provided by Kwango. You will find instructions about how to register for this on the Learning Pool.

Self-Neglect

There is an e-learning course on self-neglect on the Learning Pool that takes around 25 minutes to complete.

Hoarding

There is a new e-learning course on self-neglect on the Learning Pool.

Suicide Prevention

Stockport Suicide Prevention provides information and advice for anyone who affected by suicide. They also provide a half day Suicide Prevention Course for anyone working or volunteering in Stockport. To book a place contact info.wellbeing@stockport.gov.uk.

British Psychological Society (BPS)

The BPS was funded by the government to develop three autism courses:

  • building awareness of adult autism – free of charge
  • supporting adults with autism – free of charge
  • working with adults with autism - £12:50

These courses are for anyone with a personal or professional interest in learning more about autism. You can register free of charge with the BPS website and download the e-learning packages.
