Public notices of licence applications and renewals

The approval of venues for civil marriages and civil partnerships is granted by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.

Approval is subject to compliance with legislative requirements.

The legislative criteria includes that a venue must be a permanent structure, providing dignified surroundings in which ceremonies can take place.

Additionally, the venue must be regularly available to the public for the solemnisation of civil marriages and civil partnerships. This means that ‘one-off’ applications are not acceptable and it must not have any recent or continuing religious connections.

These are the main legislative requirements but other criteria also apply. For more information, visit the Passport Office's guidance on registering a venue (PDF 102Kb).

An Approved Premise Licence lasts for 3 years and is renewable during the final year of approval.

The current fee for a 3 year licence is £2250, but the amount of the Approved Premise Licence fee is subject to annual review.
