6. Rabies protections

The risk of rabies is increased by illegally imported dogs and cats, who carry the disease.

Stockport council has a Notifiable Animal Disease Contingency Plan in place which is reviewed on an annual basis.

The plan recognises that should Rabies come to Great Britain, it will change the way of life for many of the inhabitants and therefore the council is fully committed in its support of the various measures which form the backbone of the Government’s declared policy and determined aim to keep rabies from our shores.
