After you've submitted an appeal

This information outlines the timescales involved with admission appeals, as detailed in the new Admission Appeals code 2022.

Acknowledgement of receipt of your appeal form

Once you've submitted your appeal form, you should receive an acknowledgement from us within 5 working days. If you've not heard from us within this time, please call 0161 474 3216 to make sure that we've received your appeal form.

Invitation to the appeal hearing

You'll receive a letter via email, inviting you to your appeal hearing. You'll have a minimum of 14 calendar days notice.

For appeals for Reception or Year 7 places for a September start that were received on time, appeals must be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals.

For appeals for Reception or Year 7 places for a September start that were received after the deadline, appeals should be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

For in-year appeals, the appeal must be heard within 30 school days of you submitting an appeal form.

Before the hearing

You'll receive the Local Authorities Statement of Case, also known as an appeal pack, around 7 days before your appeal hearing date. You'll receive this in a password-protected document in an email. It will outline the situation at the school and the reasons why you have been refused a place.

We'll contact you by phone within one or 2 days of your appeal hearing date to confirm that:

  • you've received your appeal pack
  • you'll be attending your appeal hearing

If you've submitted an appeal form and would like to provide additional relevant information, you can do so up to 2 days before the hearing. You can email the information to admissions.support@stockport.gov.uk.

Withdrawing your appeal

If you want to withdraw your appeal, you'll need to inform us in writing. Email admission.appeals@stockport.gov.uk

You'll need to tell us:

  • the name of your child
  • the date of birth of your child
  • the name of the school you were appealing for
