How it works
The children of Stockport vote for the winners of the Stockport Children’s Book Award.
While the Book Award is aimed at children in Stockport primary schools, any child can read the shortlisted titles by borrowing from their local library or on BorrowBox if available. They can also discuss with their friends and submit reviews via email.
Key dates for schools
Registration for the 2026 Book Awards is now open. Schools can register to take part.
February half term
Early registration ends in February half term.
Early registration makes sure books and resources are delivered to schools as soon as possible after the half term.
Final registration usually ends around mid-March. Books and resources ordered by that date will be delivered in March.
Spring term 2 and summer term 1
Schools introduce the titles to children. Lesson plans are included to support launching the awards in classrooms.
Children read the shortlisted titles and use some of the resources provided if desired.
Children can send us artwork inspired by the titles as well as book reviews and video reviews.
We hope to arrange some virtual author visits but this is to be confirmed.
End of May
The closing date for votes is just before the half term. Schools must return their votes by this time.
Votes are then counted and verified, and the winner is chosen.
Early July
The Award Ceremony for 2026 will take place on Monday 6 July. The winning books and authors will be announced and Reader of the Year awards given out.
