L!STEN is our youth voice in Stockport, formed of a diverse group of young people passionate about making change and having their voices heard.
The group was designed by young people in 2023, who were frustrated that they were not being listened to. We worked with young people and community organisations to set up a way of working where all young people have an opportunity to share their views on things which really matter to them. Our L!STEN group is led by PIE (Pursuing Individual Excellence).
Two years on, L!STEN have:
- created and delivered 2 wellbeing events
- organised Stockport's Youth Summit for 2 years in a row, which every secondary school in Stockport was invited to attend
- contributed to the One Stockport, One Future Strategy
- developed the 5 Ways to Feel Good
Over the last 2 years, young people from L!STEN have created surveys and found out the views of their friends and peers. They now get around 1,000 responses to every survey. L!STEN share these responses with leads in the council so they can design their services around the views and needs of young people.

L!STEN wins British Citizen Youth Award 2025
L!STEN have been crowned the winners of the British Citizen Youth Award 2025.
This esteemed award was presented to the members of L!STEN at the October 2025 Roll of Honour ceremony at the Palace of Westminster, commemorating the group’s clear passion and drive to improve the wellbeing and louden the voices of all young people across Stockport.
