South East Manchester Multi-Modal Strategy branding

These web pages provide information on the New Relief Road Scheme that will incorporate the South and Poynton bypasses in Stockport North and the Manchester Airport Link Road West.

The proposed New Relief Road Scheme is based on recommendations from the Government that are laid out in the report titled ‘The South East Manchester Multi Modal Strategy’ (SEMMMS). The report highlighted a number of transport improvement opportunities that would benefit the local area.

Stockport Council, Cheshire County Council and Manchester City Council have taken the government’s advice and developed the New Relief Road Scheme.

The aim of the scheme is to reduce traffic levels in local communities such as Stockport, Wythenshawe, Heald Green, Hazel Grove, Poynton and Bramhall.

The new relief road will provide new access roads for the local residents and commuters who travel around Stockport and Greater Manchester, which will consequently lead to a significant number of benefits for everyone who lives in these areas.
