Civil Parking Enforcement

""

On 4th April 2005, Stockport Council took over responsibility from Greater Manchester Police for enforcing parking restrictions.

The Council’s Parking Attendants enforced all yellow lines and other waiting restrictions throughout the borough, as well as the Council car parks. This system was called Decriminalised Parking Enforcement (DPE).

From 31 March 2008 new regulations were introduced in England and Wales as part of The Traffic Management Act 2004.

Decriminalised Parking Enforcement is now referred to as Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) and Parking Attendants are called Civil Enforcement Officers to reflect the more expansive role they play in advising motorists and helping to prevent anti-social behaviour on the streets by keeping in contact with the Council’s CCTV operation and the police.

The new regulations require CPE to be more transparent, simple and proportional to motorists, For more information about CPE and the new regulations, please visit the pages below.
