Spillages

Stockport Council is responsible for dealing with spillages on the highway that could cause an immediate hazard to road users or to the environment.  Examples of hazardous spillages are:

  • Oil, diesel, petrol or brake fluid
  • Sand, gravel and other building materials
  • Dropped loads like steel, glass and containers
  • Hazardous materials like asbestos

Spillages can lead to road traffic accidents and/or pollution events depending on the nature of the spilt material.  We aim to deal with them as soon as possible.

If you see an incident of spillage on the highway please report it as an emergency by telephone: 0161 217 6111 or email: stockportdirect@stockport.gov.uk

If you are concerned about the nature of the spilt materials, do not approach them.  Likewise, if you have details of the vehicles which spilt the materials or any individuals involved, do not approach them but pass any relevant information to the Hotline.
