Cycle Training for Young People

Stockport has a team of qualified cycle trainers who visit schools helping young people gain confident cycling skills through the national 'cycling proficiency for the 21st Century’ programme, now known as Bikeability.

During each academic year, Year 5 and 6 children in Stockport are offered Bikeability at Levels 1 and 2 for no charge other than a voluntary contribution, check with your child’s school for details of what’s planned this year.

Someone who has completed Bikeability level 2 will have many of the skills needed to undertake practical journeys by bike (including right turns), but will not have negotiated roundabouts or major junctions with signals, as part of the course.

Occasional holiday courses are made available to those whose schools have not been involved during term-time; for these courses please contact lisa.massa@stockport.gov.uk.

Basic cycle skills can also be learnt at Woodbank Stadium with Stockport Sports Trust throughout the summer months.
