The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a legal duty on Category One responders to carry out risk assessments and maintain them in a Community Risk Register.
Stockport Council's Civil Resilience Unit works to update and maintain the Community Risk Register, working in partnership with the other 9 Boroughs of Greater Manchester to assess risk and threats in the area.
The Community Risk Register is the first step in the emergency planning process. It ensures that planning and other work is carried out in proportion to the risk. The partners in Greater Manchester have, for many years, been pro-active in identifying risks within the Boroughs and working to mitigate the effects of these risks should they cause a major emergency.
