Civil Resilience

When a light bulb goes out you know how to replace it.

Preparing for Emergencies
Preparing for Emergencies

Without having to really think about it, you automatically create a plan and solve the problem.

To help us make good decisions in a time of crisis it's really useful to have an emergency plan already in place for your family or business. If you are prepared in advance for an incident your decision making will be much better when you are under stress.

The Civil Resilience Unit (CRU) prepares and tests the Council's emergency plans and coordinates the Council's response to a wide range of emergency situations.

We do this in cooperation with all the emergency services and other partner agencies, including the utility companies and voluntary groups. By talking to other agencies, identifying risks and developing emergency response plans in advance, we are ready to support the people of Stockport, in what can be difficult times.

We have recently produced a leaflet which will be sent to all the homes and businesses within Stockport. You can download the document by following the link below:

The Community Risk Register

The Greater Manchester Community Risk Register is the basis of all emergency planning in the county. It ensures that planning and other work is carried out in proportion to the risk.
