Location Filming in Stockport

Stockport has been used for many filming locations over the years. ‘Yanks’, ‘Life on Mars’, ‘Common as Muck’ and even dear old ‘Corrie’ have used Stockport as a location.

Most recently, the advert for a well known Northern bakery company was filmed in the historic Market Place.  We provide a location identification support service as part of Visitor Economy and Tourism and are delighted to show professional and amateur filmmakers around our Borough.

Frankie Vaughan also released a charity single in 1983 called ‘Stockport’.  The Daily Mail had said it would make a charity donation to the winning song about a British town or city because there were so many going around about New York and Chicago and so Geoff Morrow wrote Stockport and asked Frankie to perform.  Apparently Frankie only accepted the offer on condition that it be recorded in Stockport, in the Plaza by engineers from Strawberry Studios.  If you have a copy of this record, the curatorial team at Stockport’s Museums & Gallery would love to be able to add it to our collection to display in Stockport Story Museum in the Market Place.  Tel: 0161 218 1342.
