Landscape with Sheep by James Stark – The green and pleasant land exhibition
Enjoy time out from the daily grind by taking in the tranquillity portrayed in this exhibition of landscape painting.
Landscapes were extremely popular during the Victorian era when towns like Stockport were becoming increasingly industrialised. Artists loved painting them, collectors loved collecting them and gallery visitors loved viewing them. Perhaps it was the feeling of escaping to the country that appealed when all that could be seen in the townscape were factories with chimneys billowing smoke.
