The Woodland
Etherow Country Park contains an extensive area of woodland and is part of the Etherow valley. Many woodland types are represented both broadleaved and pine. The woods to the west of the river Etherow are particularly important, being species rich. They are classed as a site of biological importance and large areas are classed as Ancient Woodland. Tree species are mainly defined by the drier soils on the upper slopes; hence Oak and Birch dominate here. In the wetter lower slopes, Ash and Sycamore become more common. There are many woodland paths and places of interest within the valley.
